Family Program
Wander the Winooski Virtual Tour

Sign-up to take an imaginary canoe trip from Cabot to Colchester this summer:
1.    Sign up to Wander the Winooski:
receive your Winooski Log and select your family’s trail marker
2.       Look at the river map:  determine where to begin your imaginary Winooski journey (if this is your first hike, you start in Cabot).
3.
Find a real hike (or more than one) for your family to enjoy:  Information about local hiking spots can be found on the “Wander the Winooski” cart in the library, including the Winooski River guide with information on sights from Cabot to Colchester.
4.
Take a hike!  Once your family completes the hike, make note of the miles you traveled
5.
Record your progress:  On your next visit to the library, mark your mileage on the Winooski map in the front foyer.

Saturday Junior Volunteer Librarian
Do you just LOVE the Charlotte Library?  Are you age 6-10 years?  Would you like to help the Librarian on a Saturday for an hour?  Here is the scoop.  You will work from 10-11 am on Saturday; you must sign-up in advance; there will be only one assistant at a time and you must have parent or guardian permission.  Call the library to schedule a Saturday.

Early Literacy Counts!
Another reason to sign up your preschooler for our Summer Reading Program comes from Pediatrics, the journal for the American Academy of Pediatrics. According to the journal’s most recent issue, reading and being read to can encourage children to lead healthy and active lives. In connection with these findings, the American Library Association recently launched its “Every Child Ready to Read” program which seeks to give all children the pre-reading skills necessary for successful reading in school. More information about the “Every Child Ready to Read” program is available from the Youth Services librarians. Look for parent-child early literacy workshops in the Fall!
